Fundraising and Program Assistant
Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area


Position Summary

Freedom’s Frontier is seeking a full-time Fundraising and Program Assistant. The Fundraising and Program Assistant is a flexible position with the potential for professional growth. One-third of this position’s time will be dedicated to assisting the Executive Director of Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area (FFNHA) with fundraising responsibilities. The remaining two-thirds of this position’s time will be focused on assisting program staff with special projects, meetings and communications. The Fundraising and Program Assistant position requires attention to detail, flexibility in thinking and in time management and places a premium on communication, creativity, teamwork, and organizational skills in the pursuit of multiple objectives.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business, public/non-profit administration, communications, humanities, history/public history, marketing/public relations or a related field, or equivalent qualifications and background in related field.
• Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, time management, proficiency with office software programs, flexibility, discretion in working with confidential information.
• Interest in heritage development, history, tourism, interpretation and economic development as it relates to the mission and work of FFNHA preferred.
• Experience developing and maintaining a donor database and working with non-profits preferred.
• Comprehension/application of federal, state, local and private regulations pertaining to the funding Freedom’s Frontier uses to implement its programs, projects and Grants Programs. May require occasional work on evenings/weekends. Must have valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and proof of insurance. In-town and out-of-town travel required including occasional overnight travel. Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds.

Salary Range

Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area, consisting of 41 counties in western Missouri and eastern Kansas, is a grassroots effort to steward the cultural landscape and nationally significant stories about the struggle over freedom on the frontier. The Freedom’s Frontier office is located in the historic Carnegie Building in downtown Lawrence, Kansas.

Additional Information
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
Fundraising Duties:
1. Assists Executive Director with general correspondence, gift acknowledgements, reports, meetings and events.
2. Provides administrative support to members of the FFNHA board, related to fundraising activities or events.
3. Helps develop a donor database for prospect research and management.
4. Coordinates fundraising communications for FFNHA.
5. Helps develop annual fundraising appeals in coordination with FFNHA partners.
6. Coordinates donor recognition and stewardship.

Program Duties:
1. Assist Program Coordinator and Community Development & Outreach Specialist with special projects.
2. Coordinate meeting locations, agendas, promotion, RSVPs, minutes and other details.
3. Assist with maintaining social media, including Facebook and Twitter.
4. Assist with maintaining Constant Contact lists and various newsletters.
5. Track grant reporting for the Freedom’s Frontier grant programs.
6. Maintain FFNHA website and calendar.
7. General office duties to include correspondence and filing.

Education
Bachelor’s degree required with emphasis in business, public/non-profit administration, communications, humanities, history/public history, marketing/public relations, education, interpretation, business, management or related field.

• Ability to set priorities, manage time and multiple projects/tasks while meeting deadlines.
• Proficiency with office software programs.

Preferred skills:
• Experience developing and maintaining a donor database (i.e. Raisers Edge, Advance)
• Experience working with non-profits.
• Interest in heritage development, history, tourism, interpretation and economic development as it relates to the mission and work of FFNHA.

Includes, but is not limited to: copier, scanner, computer, printer, digital camera, calculator, multi-media projector, telephone and fax machine.
