The Shared Stories of the Civil War project, a partnership between the Kansas Humanities Council and Freedom's Frontier, features short stories from historical letters, diaries, newspaper articles, and other materials. Similar to a reader's theater, the stories have been researched and compiled into short scripts.

In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War and the recognition of events that occurred in Kansas and Missouri during this period in history, these voices from history provide insight into how 19th century Americans struggled with determining the future of our nation and defining the meaning of freedom.
