Anne Marvin, local historian and humanities scholar; Dr. Jonathan Earle, Associate Director for Programming, Dole Institute of Politics, University of Kansas, and a John Brown scholar, and Kerry Altenbernd, historical interpreter at the Black Jack Battlefield and Nature Park, and a John Brown reenactor will discuss John Brown’s major actions in Kansas, the Potawatomie Massacre, the Battle of Black Jack, and the Battle of Osawatomie; how these developed from and impacted other events in eastern Kansas and western Missouri; and how these events were the beginning of Civil War. The panel discussion is free and open to the public, and is being held in conjunction with the Battle of Black Jack Traveling Exhibit showing in the Library. The traveling exhibit and panel discussion were made possible by a grant from the Kansas Humanities Council.
