Despite Leavenworth's pro-slavery reputation, it was quite active in the Underground Railroad. Just across the river from Missouri, it became an important destination for enslaved people in search of freedom. The conference will explore Leavenworth’s and the surrounding area’s role in the Underground Railroad and celebrate Leavenworth’s 1st Network to Freedom Listing, the Site of the Planters Hotel. See http://www.freedomsfrontier.org/pages/NTF-Conference for more info.
