    AAA estimates that 112.5 million Americans traveled over Christmas and New Year holidays in 2018 (about 1-in-3 Americans). The vast majority—more than 102 million—drove to their destination.     On Migration to Douglas County - A Traveling Exhibit

    This traveling exhibit features 13 panels that focus on how communities in Douglas County were populated. A variety of stories are included in the exhibit that was funded by the Kansas Humanities Council and Freedom's Frontier National Heritage Area with support from the Douglas County Heritage Office.     Unexampled Courage: The Blinding of Sgt. Isaac Woodard and the Awakening of President Harry S Truman

    In February 1946, a decorated African-American World War II veteran, in uniform, was removed from a bus, beaten and blinded. When news got to President Harry S. Truman in the White House, he was outraged. The incident resulted in the first presidential commission on Civil Rights. An all-white jury acquitted the police officer who beat the soldier.
