A State Divided

During the Civil War Missouri was a state divided, suffering from a fractured identity and caught up in a struggle of no quarter. That violent period of near-anarchy is examined in the traveling exhibit A State Divided: The Civil War in Missouri, a joint effort of the Missouri Humanities Council and the Missouri History Museum. Americans by Choice: The Story of Immigration & Citizenship in Kansas

This exhibit illustrates paths to citizenship taken by KS settlers from around the world over the past 150 years, & personalizes the story of immigration and citizenship—who came, where they came from, why they came to KS , & why they chose to become U.S. citizens. It features photographs, documents, & quotes describing major laws affecting immigration and naturalization over the past 150 years, the consequences of those laws and how they directly affected the life of a Kansan. Struggle and Resilience: Kansas during the Great Depression

The Great Depression was a turning point for America. In addition to monetary misery, drought and dust storms plagued many Plains states during the 1930s. Still, life went on. This presentation will focus on the responses of Kansans to the Great Depression. In particular, it will examine the WPA Writers' Project in Kansas and other cultural projects and their efforts to capture the day-to-day lives of ordinary people, intent on renewing the land and reclaiming their lives....details >>
