Begin your museum visit studying the majestic lobby mural, "Independence and the Opening of the West," by Thomas Hart Benton, then watch the two visitor films before entering the museum, which has two major galleries.

The gallery “Harry S. Truman: His Life and Times,” uses the voluminous correspondence between Harry and Bess to narrate his ascent from farmer to World War I captain to county politician to the U.S. Senate and then the White House. Then step into the 10,500-square-foot gallery on Truman’s presidency.

The museum also puts on informative temporary exhibits with materials from the National Archives, which administers the library.

Before leaving, step into the courtyard and pay your respects to Harry, Bess, Margaret, and Margaret’s husband Clifton Daniel, all buried here.
