Site Info

This is the place to learn about the region’s indigenous population. The West Gallery features exhibits on the Kansas City Hopewells, part of a web of sophisticated Woodlands culture Indians that flourished from 500 BCE to 700 AD and were defined by their mound-building and burial customs.

Another gallery is devoted to the tribal nations that settled in Wyandotte County: the Shawnee, Delaware, and Wyandots. See the shotgun from “Fort Conley,” set up by the Conley sisters to protect the Huron Indian Cemetery from development. The East Gallery features the life and times of Wyandotte County.
